Thirty-five minutes south of Udupi, on the sand.

SeaSwara is at Nadsal on Padubidri Beach Road, twenty-six kilometres south of Udupi down NH-66 — a straight, easy thirty-five-minute drive with no city traffic at either end. Manipal is about the same. The turn for the beach is signposted off the highway, and we are four kilometres west of it, where the road runs out at the casuarina belt.

It is close enough that guests staying here drive in for a morning at the Krishna Matha and are back for a late lunch on the deck — and close enough that people living in Udupi and Manipal come down for dinner and drive home the same night.

An honest comparison

Stay in town, or stay on the beach?

Udupi has good hotels. If your trip is really about the temple, an admissions week at Manipal, or a hospital appointment, stay in town — you will be walking distance from the reason you came, and on those trips that is worth more than a sea view.

Come out to the coast if the sea is the point. Udupi town sits about eight kilometres inland, so a “sea view” room there is a figure of speech. Here, three of the six suites look directly west at the Arabian Sea, the beach is five minutes on foot, and the evening is a sunset rather than a main road.

The other honest difference is size. Town hotels have lifts, room-service menus and conference floors. We have six rooms and no swimming pool. If you want a large resort with facilities, Malpe has several twenty minutes north of us. If you want quiet, an open kitchen and the sound of surf at night, come here.

Udupi is eight kilometres inland. That single fact is the whole reason this page exists.

Kadal · Lan Hua

Seafood on the deck — and you need not be staying.

Kadal is our beachfront restaurant: an open kitchen, a sea-view deck, and a fish board that changes with the morning boats. Coastal Mangalorean cooking — neer dosa, kane rava fry, prawn and chicken ghee roast, kori rotti, fish curry with kokum. Seven in the morning until eleven at night, every day.

Lan Hua is twelve seats of Sichuan and Cantonese by candlelight, evenings only, Tuesday to Sunday, no printed menu. It books out; two days ahead is sensible.

Both take non-resident reservations, which is why a fair share of our Saturday tables are people who drove down from Udupi and Manipal for the evening and drove home after.

For couples from Udupi and Manipal who want a beach wedding without a four-hour drive, the lawn here takes four hundred with the Arabian Sea directly behind the mandap, and the indoor hall seats a hundred and eighty when the monsoon has opinions. There is a boardroom for conferences, in-house catering from both kitchens, and six suites for the immediate family.

We host one event at a time, so the property is yours for the day. Capacities and the shape of the pricing are on the events page.

Coming from Udupi

What people driving down from Udupi ask.

01How far is SeaSwara from Udupi?

26 km, about 35 minutes straight down NH-66 with no city traffic at either end. Manipal is roughly the same, and Malpe is about 45 minutes.

02Is there a proper beach hotel near Udupi?

Udupi town is around eight kilometres inland, so the beach options all sit on the coast road — Malpe to the north, Padubidri and Kaup to the south. SeaSwara is on Padubidri Beach Road at Nadsal, five minutes on foot from the Blue Flag beach, with three of its six suites facing the Arabian Sea.

03Can I visit the Krishna Matha as a day trip from here?

Easily. It is a 35-minute drive: leave after an early breakfast, do the temple and a proper Udupi vegetarian lunch, and be back on the deck by mid-afternoon. The house car can take you, or the concierge will arrange a taxi for the day.

04Do you take dinner reservations from people staying in Udupi?

Yes, and a good number of our Saturday tables are exactly that. Both restaurants take non-resident bookings — Kadal all day, Lan Hua evenings Tuesday to Sunday with only twelve seats, so book that one two days ahead.

05Do you have a banquet hall for a wedding near Udupi?

Yes — a beachfront lawn for 400, an indoor hall seating 180, and a boardroom for 30, with in-house catering and six suites on site. Thirty-five minutes from Udupi, which makes it workable for a guest list drawn from both Udupi and Mangalore.

06What does a room cost?

From ₹2,200 a night for The Anchorage to ₹5,500 for The Salon, our two-bedroom sea-facing residence, all including breakfast. Sea-facing suites start at ₹4,200. Direct booking on this site is always our lowest rate.

Thirty-five minutes from Udupi and Manipal, five minutes from the Blue Flag beach. Six suites from ₹2,200 a night, breakfast included.
