Destination weddings · the Karnataka coast

Bring everyone to the sea.

A sunset ceremony on the Arabian Sea, forty minutes from Mangaluru airport. Three days with the people you love instead of three hours in a hall — at a house that hosts one wedding at a time.

A destination wedding is a promise

You are asking people to travel. Make it worth the journey.

Every destination wedding makes a quiet promise to its guests: that the flight, the leave from work and the new outfits will be repaid by something they could not have had at a hall in the city. A sea at sunset. Food they will talk about for a year. Three days together instead of three hours.

The Karnataka coast keeps that promise without the crowds. It is Tulunadu — a country of temples and churches, buffalo races and fish curry, of hospitality taken very seriously — and it has not yet been discovered by every wedding planner in India. Your photographs will not look like everyone else’s.

And the house hosts one wedding at a time. There is no second baraat arriving behind yours, no stranger’s sangeet through the wall. For those days, the place is your family’s.

Easier to reach than it sounds, from almost anywhere.

Mangaluru International Airport is forty minutes south of the house, straight up the coast road. That one fact is what makes a wedding here practical: most of your guests are a single flight and a short drive away.

How a wedding here unfolds

Three days by the sea, not three hours in a hall.

A shape, not a rule — every family has its own rituals, in its own order, and we follow yours. Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Jain, Bunt, Konkani, a registry signing with a beach dinner after it: the sea does not mind which.

For the parents, quietly worried

Everything you are not saying out loud.

“Will the elders be comfortable?” Tell us who needs a ground-floor room, a car to the door, a chair in the shade and a plate brought to them. We would rather know before they arrive than notice after.

“Will both families’ food be right?” Sea Swad cooks for you. Coastal seafood that the fish-loving side will remember, and a vegetarian table made with exactly the same care — Udupi, after all, is where South Indian vegetarian cooking comes from. Jain and no-onion-no-garlic menus on request.

“What if it rains?” This coast has a proper monsoon from June to September, and we will tell you honestly if your date sits in it. October to March is dry and clear, and the ceremony is in the hall, so the sky cannot spoil it.

“Will it cost more than a hall at home?” Sometimes less. A smaller list, chosen with love, often costs less than a thousand guests in the city — and every one of them will remember it. We write a quote to your budget, and we do not add surprises at the end.

Honest about size

Six suites for the family. A hall for a hundred and fifty.

We are a small house, and we would rather say so now. The six suites go to the two of you, your parents and the people you cannot do without. For a larger list, guests stay in Udupi and Manipal, thirty-five minutes away, where there are hotels at every budget — and come to the sea for the celebrations.

The Casuarina Hall takes up to about a hundred and fifty guests — which is exactly the size of wedding this coast does best. Not a thousand people you half know, but the hundred and fifty who matter, close enough that you actually speak to every one of them.

Photographs worth the flight

Places your photographer will not have seen before.

Within the hour of the house: an empty Blue Flag beach at dawn, a lighthouse on black rock at dusk, an island made of basalt columns, and a river meeting the sea. Your pre-wedding shoot does not need a studio.

Planning from far away

What families ask us first.

01Can we have a beach destination wedding in Karnataka?

Yes. SeaSwara is on the Karnataka coast at Padubidri, between Udupi and Mangalore, with a wedding hall for up to about 150 guests, the beach in front for photographs, in-house catering and six suites for the family. We host one wedding at a time.

02How do guests reach a wedding here?

Fly into Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) — about an hour from Bengaluru, ninety minutes from Mumbai, with direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha and other Gulf cities. The house is 40 minutes north of the airport by road. Padubidri railway station is 8 minutes away.

03How many guests can a wedding at SeaSwara have?

Up to about 150 in the Casuarina Hall — an intimate wedding rather than a thousand-guest one. The six suites house the couple and close family; larger guest lists usually stay in Udupi and Manipal, 35 minutes away, and come to the sea for the celebrations.

04What is the best time of year for a beach wedding on this coast?

October to March: dry, clear, warm days and cool evenings, with the sun setting into the sea. April and May are hot. June to September is the monsoon — beautiful, but not for an outdoor ceremony, and we will say so if your date falls in it.

05Can you cater for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian families?

Yes. Coastal Mangalorean seafood from Sea Swad and a full vegetarian table in the Udupi tradition, cooked with the same care. Jain and no-onion-no-garlic menus on request.

06We live abroad — can we plan the wedding remotely?

Yes, and many coastal families working in the Gulf, the UK and the US do exactly that. We plan over WhatsApp and video calls, send photographs and menus as decisions are made, and are on the ground for everything that needs a person there.

07What does a destination wedding here cost?

We do not publish wedding prices, because the answer depends on the date, the guest list and the days you want. Send us those on WhatsApp or by email and we will return a written quote built to your budget, with nothing added at the end.

Send us a date, a rough guest count and where your families are coming from. We come back with a written plan and a quote, and hold a tentative date for seven days.
