SeaSwara is at Nadsal on Padubidri Beach Road, thirty-two kilometres north of Mangaluru International Airport — one straight run up NH-66 along the coast, no city centre to cross, about forty minutes door to door. Mangaluru city itself is around fifty minutes south.

That makes this an unusually easy first or last night of a coastal trip: land at IXE in the afternoon, be on the deck for sunset. Or the reverse — a slow breakfast, a late checkout and an easy drive to an evening flight.

The house car is ₹1,800 one way and needs a day’s notice. Airport taxis run ₹1,500 to ₹2,200 on the meter. Parking is free if you are driving yourself.

An honest comparison

Mangaluru has beaches. They are city beaches.

Panambur and Tannirbhavi are genuinely good, and on a Sunday evening they are wonderful — jet skis, food stalls, a crowd, a festival atmosphere. Panambur also sits beside a working port. They are places to spend two lively hours, not places to wake up to.

Come north if what you want is a shore that is empty at seven in the morning. Padubidri Beach is Blue Flag certified — clean, managed, with changing rooms and seasonal lifeguards — and it is four hundred metres from our gate. Three of our six suites look straight out at that water.

Stay in the city instead if your trip is about the city: a wedding at a banquet hall in town, business in Kadri or Hampankatta, a hospital appointment, a late arrival with an early departure. Fifty minutes each way is a real cost, and we would rather you knew that before you booked than after.

Halfway up the coast, which is the point.

Padubidri sits on NH-66 almost exactly between Udupi and Mangaluru. For a coastal Karnataka trip that means you can base yourself once and day-trip both directions — the Krishna Matha and Malpe to the north, the old town and Bunder to the south — instead of packing twice.

For a wedding it means something more practical: guests coming from either city drive about the same distance, and neither half of the list has to cross a city centre to get to you.

Mangalorean cooking, on the sand it came from.

Sea Swad is our beachfront restaurant — a sea-view deck and a kitchen that cooks the coast properly: neer dosa, kane rava fry, prawn and chicken ghee roast, kori rotti, fish curry with kokum, and a fish board set by whatever the morning boats brought in. Then the tandoor, North Indian curries, biryanis and Pan-Asian from the wok for the evenings that call for them. Seven in the morning until eleven at night.

It takes non-resident reservations. The city has its own great institutions and we will happily send you to them — but if you want the same cooking with the sea in front of it rather than a road, this is the drive.

The hall · the beach

A beach wedding venue under an hour from the city.

The Casuarina Hall takes a wedding or reception of up to about a hundred and fifty, with the beach in front for the photographs; the Chart Room holds a board meeting. In-house catering from Sea Swad, six suites on site, and free parking for the whole guest list.

For a Mangaluru guest list it is forty minutes from the airport and fifty from the city — close enough to be practical, far enough that the beach is actually empty. We host one event at a time.
